THE AURORA PROJECT is an atmospheric progressive/symphonic metal band. THE AURORA PROJECT's music delivers powerful atmospheric progressive rock, with a distinct metal edge where influences by bands such as 3RD AND THE MORTAL, PINK FLOYD, PORCUPINE TREE, TOOL and ANATHEMA can be.

It is highly melodic, yet also has symphonic tendencies, while the CD comes in a simple digipak but I love the artwork and the way it has all been put together. The bad news begins with the fact that the mediocre "New World" is the only quality song on The Unknown other than "I Could.

The way the overdubbed vocals are mixed is well done.

ANDERSON PONTY BAND discography and reviews

Jon is in fine voice as this is no easy song to belt out. I couldn't possibly rate this higher than 3 stars because I am peering into so many black holes, but what's left behind has all the making of a truly dazzling star. This is perhaps what a Rothery solo album would sound like, or an old Marillion demo from the mids before Fish records his written lyrics.

It begins by a short, dreamy instrumental section entitled 'Overture' leading to the pulsing 'Streets Of Empathy' that introduces the subject matter.

The set-list also saved time by leaning hard on pre-existing Yes and Ponty repertoire, the latter unfamiliar to this lapsed fan and the former re-imagined in radical new arrangements, something Anderson's ex-band should have tried years ago. This is the essential resource that allowed the material comprised in "Croma" to achieve its most climatic moments.

Take a look at yourself, where are you're heading now? And, wow, they translate over to that solo medium so well, and Perdono plays them with an obvious love for the melody.

Ruud shines with exciting blues guitar from howling and biting to wah wahlike a less raw Gary Moore. Then comes a nervous section entitled 'Illusion' that describes the feeling of loosing touch with reality driving you where you can hide from other people.

In short, a meaningful eleven-and-a-half-minute rock song requires much different material - - in quality and quantity - - than what's present here.

The eponymous track is a sensitive and warm exploration of guitar melodies and delicate piano lines in a very melancholic mood, followed by another instrumental piece, the 9-min.

    UNOMA discography and reviews

The album is a personal bet of Fidel Vazquez, who has given to the production a hard sound and sometimes a little dirty, typical of the U. Excellent production, I would almost say that the best production of the decade in any area of Spanish music.

The remaining songs are pretty good, with "Violet Purple Rose" the strongest; I'll admit that the intro is pretty much just the MTV theme played in the style of "Tempus Fugit," but it has all the energy and synergy I expect in a Sherwood-Squire collaboration - - although to be fair, it was actually a collaboration among Sherwood, Squire, and Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens.

Deceiving pictures and tricky words run free, breaking the silence.

There are also a few guests helping out on the album, and one of those keyboard players is none other than Joakim Svalberg Opethnot bad for a little-known band. The backing tracks for the duo's first album and possibly last, given Anderson's many other commitments were captured live on stage, with post-dubbed studio enhancements adding occasional production overkill, most obviously in the syrupy synth "Intro", an arena-rock echo of the old Yes chestnut "And You And I".

And need I repeat, the finest vocals you could possibly imagine. I hope the simile was clear. Everything here is perfect, memorable, thrilling, inventive and explosive, chock full of massive melodies that stick in your mind and coated with endless mellotron waves, superb soloing and kick-ass drumming.

    1. Wilson, Steven. It's the end of the road, the end of all the pain and you're moving on, along the streets of empathy.

    2. It is highly melodic, yet also has symphonic tendencies, while the CD comes in a simple digipak but I love the artwork and the way it has all been put together. And Ponty's graceful bowing vastly improves the '80s pop bombast of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" which I still can't bring myself acknowledge as a Yessong.

    3. Guest vocals by Alex Warner. A couple of Yes classics will alter the sonic landscape only so slightly, 'Wondrous Stories' with its beautiful piano introduction is pure magic, the acoustic guitar rippling through with fluid grace and of course Jon telling his wondrous story, violin in tow, jazz scat singing right behind.
